Precursor Powders for the Piezoelectric Ceramic Powders

Following are the Precursors oxide-powders for the Lead-Based Piezoelectric Ceramic Materials

  1. Lead-Mono-Oxide (PbO, Massicot Phase)
  2. Zirconia (ZrO2, Zirconium Dioxide)
  3. Titanium-dioxide (TiO2)

Lead-Mono-Oxide (PbO)

The Lead-oxide exist in two phases; Litharge and Massicot.

Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2)

The Zirconia Precursor Powders for the Piezoelectric Ceramic Materials are available on the following companies’ website.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO2)

The Titanium Dioxide Precursor Powders for the Piezoelectric Ceramic Materials are available on the following companies’ website.

Binders

Following Binders are used in the Piezoelectric Ceramic Materials;

  • PVA (poly-vinyl alcohol)

While PVA binder systems are typically used, a PEG (poly-ethylene glycol) component is often added at a 60:40 ratio PVA:PEG respectively to help with the plasticity of the dry-pressed-die component and thereby reducing the likelihood of defect generation as a result of component rebound during ejection from the die. Spray dried PZT powder in the form of binder containing hollow spheres of PVA in the range of 50-150um diameter are recommended.

Electrode Paste

The electrode paste for the piezoelectric ceramics are available on the following companies websites;
